Tag Installation

The RFID tags are kept in this carrying case that holds 60 tags.  Note that the mounting method will change if tags are distributed to racers on a permanent basis.

Tag Holder

When each racer pulls into the "Tech Test" area.  The attendant will verify that the racer's number on their helmet, if not the racer is sent back to get it.  An RFID tag is then mounted to the top of the front fender of the motorcycle with Duct tape.  The person attaching the tag makes sure that the fender has no dirt or residue from product like WD40.  Occasionally, contact cleaner is needed to remove the residue.  The orientation of the tag is very important, and should be done as shown below, parallel to the number plate.  If the tag is mounted perpendicular to the number plate, the tag will not have sufficient read range in the checkpoints.

Mounting the tag this way makes it very secure.  The only way to loose a tag mounted this way it to hit a tree head on VERY hard, or to loose the entire fender!
